Pediatric Dentist - Announcements

Winter Weather Policy

In the event of winter weather the office will generally follow Loudoun County School policies. If schools are on a 2 hour delay opening the office will likely open 2 hours delayed. If schools are closed, the office may still open but on a 2 hour delay. We will do our best to try to reach scheduled patients in the event of any changes in schedule.

ATTENTION PATIENTS WITH AETNA DENTAL INSURANCE

We are pleased to announce that Aetna has provided us an updated fee schedule that will allow us to remain in network! We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

DEMANDFORCE

We have recently partnered with Demandforce to help improve our communication and service. We are now able to confirm appointments by email and text messaging. We are also able to take appointment requests through our website. The most valuable feature for us is the reviews and surveys we receive from parents after their child’s visit in our office. The reviews are shared with all the staff. We appreciate the positive reviews and especially appreciate the suggestions on how we can improve our service. Please be patient as we implement this system.

STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are sad to announce that Dana has left the practice to return home. She was a favorite of many of the kids and we will miss her. We wish her the best in her new pursuits. We have recently hired a new assistant, Mehrnoosh. You can read about her on the Meet Our Team page.

We are excited to announce that Dr. Angela Austin has joined our office on a part-time basis. Dr. Mike worked with Dr. Austin at Children’s Hospital in 2004-2005. She shares the same philosophies of compassionate care and preventive education.

THANK YOU

Thank you to all the kids and parents who have come to see us and who have entrusted us with the referral of their friends and family members. We hope to exceed your expectations!
You can find some of your kids' Kute Kwotes on the page titled "Why Do Kids Trust Us."

I
NSURANCE

We participate with a number of PPO insurance plans. Please check with your insurance plan to confirm that we are in network with your plan.

SATURDAY APPOINTMENTS

As a convenience we now have Saturday appointments available for checkups! We regret that we are not able to offer Saturday appointments for dental treatment.

SMILES FOR CHILDREN

We are happy to announce that we are now a provider for Smiles for Children, the Virginia program for children with Medicaid.

TOY RECALLS

We would like to assure you that all toys in the office are safe and lead-free to the best of our knowledge. Several of the Thomas the Train toys that were on the recall list were removed from the office. Also, we receive daily emails on recalled products from the Consumer Protection Safety Commission to ensure the safety of our toys. You can sign up for these emails yourself at www.cpsc.gov.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Dr. Mike has attended a four day course on sedation given by the AAPD. The course offered extensive training in pediatric anatomy, sedation medications and emergencies. The course included a first of its kind training with simulator manikins providing “almost live” training scenarios.

Dr Mike received advanced training in Floortime® techniques for special needs patients. Dana and Dr Mike also completed “Building Bridges: Dental Care for Patients with Autism”.

Dr. Mike has attended the 3 day conference presented by the Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders as well as a course on the medical-dental aspects of pediatric diseases.

Dr. Mike attended the AAPD’s 3 day Comprehensive Review of Pediatric Dentistry as well as courses on infection control, sedation management, and the recognition of child abuse.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Dr. Mike has volunteered at the Give Kids a Smile event held at the Northern Virginia Community College School of Hygiene in Springfield. We also routinely visit local schools, providing educational messages and providing screenings for elementary age children.

Dr. Mike has published articles on pacifier use, updated fluoride guidance for infants, pain and anxiety management in pediatric dentistry, and the value of the age one dental visit in local health publications.

We are a proud supporter of the Autism Society of American, Loudoun County Autism Network, Loudoun Interfaith Relief, Loudoun Youth, The Stanley Greenspan Foundation, and Children’s National Medical Center

FLUORIDE

A number of parents have told us they are on well water. Fluoride content in well water can vary significantly and can actually be excessive. Anyone on well water should have their water tested to ensure their children are getting the proper amount of fluoride. Further information can be found on the Loudoun County Health Department website. Click here (www.loudoun.gov) to learn more.
